Bloomingdale's Fantastic

Yep, this is a dressing room

Bloomingdale’s promised it would create something completely different for its new store at Santa Monica Place retail center.

When the store opens Aug. 6 a few blocks away from the beach, the Santa Monica, Calif., Bloomie's will offer a feast for the eyes. I went on a tour of this Bloomie's Tuesday morning, and I saw wild design features.

There were dressing rooms contained in Chinese lantern–like pods. They retract into the ceiling when store events take place such as trunk shows and even yoga classes. Another eye-popping feature: mannequins seemingly hovering above the store’s Vince mini-boutique. (These mannequins were attached to a conveyor belt fastened to the ceiling.)

Elevators and some bathrooms exhibited colorful photo murals of Santa Monica. Some wall hangings were covered in Red Aranda orchids. But the store offered some familiar features, too. Bloomingdale’s signature black-and-white checkerboard floor covers the exquisite shop floor. Look for more details and news on the Santa Monica Place Bloomingdale’s in the August 6 issue of California Apparel News.

Flying Mannequins
You have given the first decade of the century something unusual to experience and enjoy. Congratulations on your continued efforts to keep us interested, not only on what you will do next, but in the desire to visit your store and be part of this excitement. Apparel is my main interest and you feed it in ways that without blogging, in the past would have been unimaginable. Thanks Bloomie
