PALM DESERT, CALIF.April 3 featured a first for Fashion Week El Paseo. Gardena, Calif.based Howe became the first mens collection to show under the El Paseo tent. Titled The Rise of the Indie Executive, Creative Director Jade Howe gave us the anecdote to dull business attire.
Models came down the runway sporting rockabilly hairdos, slick suits, vintage-inspired leather jackets and something you rarely see in a fashion show: smiles. The audience went wild. His collection had the staple items for a business trip; a two-piece suit for meetings; cocktail attire for night smooching; relaxed casuals that included denim, printed tees, leather jackets; and even boardshorts for taking in some sun. Production elements that enhanced the show were images and phrases on two large screens. With phrases such as I want to retire at 25 or 35 and Wall Street stole my $$$, Howe made it clear that a new businessman is on the rise. Howe designed for the overachiever, the go-getter who is climbing up the corporate ladder at the beat of his own drum.
