John Van Hamersveld at South Coast Plaza's Surfing Heritage Museum

Anyone who has spent time in the surf world or rock scene knows John Van Hamersveld's art.

He crafted the iconic poster for Endless Summer, the 1966 surf film that helped popularize the wave riding scene around the globe. He also designed the album covers for the Rolling Stone’s classic album Exile On Main Street, a concert poster for Jimi Hendrix, his list of depicting pop culture greats and other worthies is very long indeed.

Van Hamersveld talked up his famous graphics and the characters he hung out with the past 50-years in his book My Art, My Life Nov. 27 at South Coast Plaza’s Surfing Heritage Museum & Gift Store. Would it be gauche to say cowabunga about this mighty surf art event? Hmm.
