Mo'Nique in Tadashi Shoji
It’s Oscar season and we, at Apparel News, congratulate all those who were nominated for awards today. But let’s face it, for us, it’s all about the clothes—especially when they’re designed by Los Angeles designers.
Oscar-winner Mo’Nique wore a dress by Los Angeles-based Tadashio Shoji this morning when she and Tom Sherak, president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, announced this year’s nominees. (Thanks to Tom and Lorenzo for the tip and the pic!)
And the nominees for best costume design are: Colleen Atwood for “Alice in Wonderland,” Antonella Cannarozzi for “I Am Love,” Jenny Beavan for “The King’s Speech,” Sandy Powell for “The Tempest” and Mary Zophres for “True Grit.”
Not a member of the Academy? Not to worry, you can still have your say in who takes home the little gold guy. You can pick your own winner for best costume design (and every other category) at www.oscar.com.
To tide us over until the Feb. 27 show, the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising will be hosting it 19th-annual “Art of Motion Picture Costume Design” exhibition at FIDM’s Museum & Galleries. Admission is free and the exhibition runs from Feb. 8 to April 30.
Want more costume drama? The Costume Designers Guild will host its own awards gala on Feb. 22 in Beverly Hills.
