Barbie Goes Tokidoki

Tokidoki x Barbie skatedeck. Cute.

Product collaborations should fit naturally together as peanut butter and jelly or blue jeans and black T-shirts.

So get this match –up; pop culture company Tokidoki best known for its character Adios, an adorable and mischievous baby Grim Reaper, will officially debut its collaboration on Oct. 8 with the beauty queen of girls toys; Barbie. At first thought, it seems kinda wild, like seeing the homecoming queen on a date with a skate punk dropout.

But one look at the Tokidoki Barbie doll, and the collaboration seems to work. Tokidoki Barbie will bear tattoos, a black top with the Tokidoki logo of heart and cross bones, pink mini-dress and leopard skin leggings, all topped off by a head of pink doll hair. Along with this punk Barbie doll, the limited Tokidoki Barbie collection will offer tops, hoodies, jewelry, totes, and of course skateboard decks.

Tokidoki creative director Simone Legno said the collaboration worked because both Barbie and Tokidoki honestly overcame their differences. “I was happy to design something so very Tokidoki for the Mattel customer and still stay true to who we are, crossing that branded bridge.” Legno said. A match made in toy heaven.
