Monika Chiang Hits L.A.

Monika Chiang

Monika Chiang aspires to go higher.

Case-in-point, the New York-based designer is 5’10 and prefers to wear boots with heels. “I still want to be taller,” she said. Her self-named Monika Chiang label made a splash this year when it debuted and in October, she opened a boutique on 108 S. Robertson Blvd.

She visited the Robertson Boulevard shop on the night of Dec. 7 for the shopping party, which featured the writers of the blog Bag Snob. A Monika Chiang exotic python print Deli Bag was given away, while Chiang invited shoppers to also look at her latest clothing collection. One of the standout items was a blue python print silk caftan, which happened to be the item she wore at the party.

For the vertically challenged (yours truly included) Chiang said height and a joie de vivre was nothing but a state of mind. “It’s about how you feel,” she said “It’s about being different and having fun.”
