Nike Debuts New Hi-Tech Football Uniforms

Nike unveiled its new hi-tech uniforms for the University of Oregon’s football team this week, just in time for the Rose Bowl on Jan.2.

In what Nike calls “the most advanced football uniform system ever assembled,” the uniforms feature increased durability and a new Chain Maille Mesh technology to help wick away sweat and keep the body cool through engineered ventilation and thermoregulation.

They also have a re-designed numbering system with an iridescent sheen meant to mimic a mallard’s feathers, larger, bolder numbers that shift in color as they move, and an armored wing with new maximum strength material along the shoulder area.

In a Darth Vader meets football look, the new helmet will feature wings and a LiquidMetal black finish “never before seen on the field,” and the Oregon “O” will be moved to the top of the helmet instead of on the side.

The system is an updated version of Nike’s Pro Combat System that was debuted last year.

The Ducks have been a long-time partner in adopting Nike's latest technology and Nike will take over NFL apparel from Reebok in April.

“Oregon represents the gold-standard when it comes to merging science and innovation with athletic performance,” Chip Kelly, Head Football Coach for the Oregon Ducks, said.

The flashy uniforms will be on display in Pasadena when the Ducks take the field at the Rose Bowl in January.

Not to be outdone, Adidas will unveil its latest uniform innovations for the Duck’s Rose Bowl opponents, the Wisconsin Badgers, this Friday.
