QSW: Don't Fear the Beard

John Moore

John Moore’s beard looks vintage. We’re talking Amish, or Andrew Jackson era mountain man here.

So it makes sense that the designer went for some vintage looks for the Spring 12 line of QSW, a contemporary line made by Huntington Beach surf giant Quiksilver.

Moore presided over a reception for line Jan. 10 at The Eveleigh, a chi-chi West Hollywood restaurant that’s more TV show Melrose Place than surf epic The Endless Summer. The party did not feature the packs of surf dogs present at many Quiksilver events. Instead it was a gathering of girly girl bloggers such as Kelsi Smith of Dedicated Follower of Fashion, as well as Teresa Marino and Emily Kolberg of The Stylemap. But let’s get back to the QSW line.

For the line’s Austin Dream tank dress, Moore placed details on the 100 percent silk piece. Think small graphics such as the Old West icon of a cattle skull. Yep, it was cute. The beatniks of the 1950s were the inspiration for the line’s Bermuda shorts. A print from classic surf label Hoffman California Fabrics made an appearance in one of the line’s shorts.

Moore said he performed some of the line’s research at the thrift shops of Austin, Texas. “L.A. thrift shops are well merchandised. But anything goes in Austin’s thrift shops,” he said. “ Yee-ha!

Roxy McKnight, a Quiksilver marketing coordinator, models The Austin Dream dress. Yep, she's the daughter of Quiksilver chief Bob McKnight.

P.S. - I razliee your intention wasn't for everyone to blog on Japan, but rather to respect and acknowledge what is happening. You inspired me to take it to the next level, though, and I'm really thankful for that.P.P.S.- The Loudmouth expressed some concern with donating to the Red Cross. I don't know anything about this, but another wonderful organization to donate to is Doctors Without Borders. Just thought I'd let everyone know.
