Andrew Christian,Too Sexy?

Underwear and sportswear manufacturer Andrew Christian Inc. said its First Amendment rights were kicked to the curb.

In an open letter to sprawling video website YouTube, dated Feb. 8, the Glendale, Calif.-based Andrew Christian Inc. claimed that its video “Pink Paradise (Let’s Get Nasty at the Andrew Christian Pool Party,) was removed from YouTube. Adding to the injury, the Andrew Christian YouTube account was blocked for two weeks.

The Pink Paradise video portrayed good looking, muscular, young men dancing around a poolside to techno music, clad only in the label’s Naked Infinity brief. The open letter claimed a double standard, because YouTube continues to webcast thousands of other videos, including the site’s Playboy Channel, which portrays attractive female models cavorting in underwear or scanty clothes.

“We are a company that only produces menswear, and it feels unfair that our ads are held to different standards for featuring the male body,” Andrew Christian’s open letter stated. “There is no doubt in our mind that there would be no issue if the exact same video was posted with female models instead of male. Are you being homophobic or is it something else?”

Allen Asch (yep, a relative) runs YouTube Channel LiberalViewer’s Media and Political Analysis. Upon his review of the website’s community guidelines, he saw no recent changes in the site’s “sexually explicit content rule.” However YouTube staff is required to make a judgment on videos if they get complaints on the objets d'arts.

Said Allen, “I would conclude that Andrew Christian is not so much the victim of a double standard, but the victim of a very subjective YouTube standard that is a little different for every YouTube staff member who reviews flagged videos. I'm not sure exactly how many people YouTube employs to review flagged videos, but I've heard many complaints over the years about subjective enforcement of vaguely defined guidelines.”

Andrew Christian requested the Pink Paradise video be webcast and its channel to be unblocked. YouTube did not answer an email requesting comment by press time.

It is clear there is a double standard and I am proud of Andrew Christian for finally saying something about this matter!

Sad
Its Sad to see a Company suffer for producing a video that hurt No one. It was Funny, Enjoyable to watch, and Honestly made me want to buy some underwear. the Unrated video was not featured on youtube, and the Rated version was totally acceptable. If they thought it was too Explicit then why not make it 18+ to view like many other videos ? Obviously the person in charge of reviewing the flagged video was biased !!!

Could it be related to YouTube's Parent Company Google's Support of CPAC
I wonder if it has more to do with Googles sudden interest in support for The Conservative Polication Action Committee which they signed on as a major sponsor of CPAC's annual conference this year... Google is You Tube's recently new Owner and is also lobbying Congress on Piracy legislation such as SOPA and others which are bad... but Google seems willing to go to bed with the wrong sorts of people in order to get want the want... as long as it increases their Bottom Line.

Say No to Double Standard!
I believe this article already speaks for itself. Double standard. Period. How is it that scantily clad women in bikini can still be prancing around YouTube's many channels while a mere 2 videos from AC get taken down? It is outright unjust. Some or rather, it seems that AC isn't the first, and won't be the last the fall victim to fall victim to such an act. So much for being an open society - rubbish! There is clearly nothing wrong with guys wearing AC's newest line of briefs and getting it wet in the car wash video or the pool video. Do we not see topless guys in wet soaking trunks by the beach? Should we then censor them as well and get all guys to shorts up while taking a dip in the sea? Utterly ridiculous I must say. I must commend AC for taking the bold step forward and asserting his stand that this act on YouTube's part is wrong. So what if the general audience deems the video inappropriate? In what way has these videos contravened YouTube's policies? If these 2 videos have, then I suggest that YouTube go and take down all the videos with scantily clad women. AC, you will always have my support, and many more behind you. Keep pushing and I'm sure the outcome will be in your favour; cause this is outright discrimination. Let's wage war! This, is, SPARTA! WOW
I feel I should start this off by saying I am a straight guy that is into fashion and fashion marketing/retailing. I just watched many videos on the Andrew Christian page and these people are seriously amazing at what they do. Perfectly targeted videos (assuming they are for gay men) that are fun upbeat , wild , wet , and yeah, I will say it..sexy! There is clearly a double standard that has gone on for years and I hate to say it but it is probably straight narrow minded fools that are flagging their videos. People need to grow up and stop acting like babies. Hell, the videos are so much fun and hilarious. I showed my wife and they made our night. YouTube do the right thing here!
