Unique LA Spreads Holiday Cheer While Stimulating Local Economy

I think I love crafting and D.I.Y. projects because I, unfortunately, was born devoid of any such discernable craft-making skills (unless you count gluing dried macaroni to a paper plate).

So on Sunday, I headed down to the California Market Center to gaze in awe and envy at the many wares from the vendors at the Unique Los Angeles shopping fair, which took place at the CMC’s expansive penthouse space on the 13th floor.

Held on Dec. 5 and 6, the 2nd annual Unique LA holiday fair featured more than 300 local and independent artisans and designers selling jewelry, stationery, clothing, artwork, plush toys and accessories, among other goodies. This year’s event also included an “Eco lounge,” which housed eco-friendly and sustainable designs.

Unique LA asked mall-haters to come down and support L.A.’s economy and local design talent, which included clothing lines, Blood is the New Black, Maxine Dillon, Eva Franco and Rojas.

According to the Unique LA blog, the event drew more than 6,000 attendees. Some satisfied holiday shoppers found something for everyone on their lists. The event also included several workshops, such as a make your own robot ornament and monster-making lessons.

In the spirit of giving, Unique LA also donated a portion of the proceeds from ticket sales to nonprofit writing organization 826LA.
