Mark Your Calendar: Discarded to Divine

Los Angeles designer Aurelio created a video to accompany his pieces, which will be shown at the Discarded to Divine preview on April 9 at San Francisco's de Young Museum.

Now in its fifth year, Discarded to Divine invites designers to create original creations from discarded apparel.

The designs will be auctioned off at an April 29 gala to benefit the St. Vincent de Paul Society. The event raises awareness and funds to help St. Vincent de Paul assist the poor, as well as victims of domestic violence through St. Vincent de Paul’s domestic violence shelters and services.

The fashion fund-raiser will feature a VIP party, cocktail party, and silent and live auctions. The event will be held at The Hall at St. Mary’s Cathedral. Tickets, which start at $75, are still available.

Among the designers featured in the event are “Project Runway” designers Jay Nicolas Sario and Sweet P. Vaughn, Colleen Quen and Cari Borja.

The Discarded to Divine Web site has a preview of the fashions—which range from stunning to craftastic. But if you’re going to be in San Francisco on April 9, you can get a sneak peak at the de Young museum.

Located in Golden Gate Park, the de Young was renovated a few years ago by Swiss architecture firm Herzog & de Meuron and Fong & Chan Architects in San Francisco and is located across from the city’s new California Science Center.

The sneak peak is part of the museum’s Cultural Encounters: Friday Nights at the de Young series at the Fine Arts.

Los Angeles designer Aurelio tipped us off to the preview event at the de Young. Two of his pieces—made from fabric headers donated by Solstiss and JM International and fur pieces donated by Lowell of Beverly Hills—will be featured along with a video Aurelio created for the event.
