Fashion Industries Guild's British Invasion

Christopher Wicks

Christopher Wicks, the founder of English Laundry, will no doubt bring a bit British rock ‘n’ roll edge to the annual Fashion Industries Guild gala this year. The October event raises money for Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and Wicks is this year’s man of the year.

The man from Manchester, England, has established a reputation for himself—and his Los Angeles companies Defiance USA Inc. and Rock & Roll Religion—as a master of the rock ‘n’ roll branding thanks to partnerships with Fender guitars, Jim Hendrix “The Experience” and rocker Scott Weiland. His Da Vinci menswear label captures the cocktail-cool of the Rat Pack era and his English Laundry men’s brand and ER II by English Laundry women’s line bring Mod 60s styles into the contemporary era.

The gala is set for Oct. 9. The Fashion Industries Guild was founded more than 50 years ago to raise funds for Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. FIG members, which include manufacturers, buying offices, sales reps, publicists and other apparel and retail professionals, have raised more than $20,000,000 for the medical center’s projects.
