So, many of our readers probably wonder what we do when we're off deadline.
Here at the California Apparel News, we are always cruising for story ideas. But sometimes we cruise past the freight elevators and discover treasures left behind by some of the departing tenants and showrooms at the California Market Center, where our offices are located.

It's moving day for the people over at Fashion Business Inc.
The business incubator for up-and-coming apparel companies is shifting its digs within the California Market Center.
For the past three years, the non-profit group has been located in a generous space that covers about 7,000 square feet on the seventh floor of the C building of the California Market Center.

The "Hammering Man" in Seoul, South Korea
How is it that you go on vacation but never get far away from your work place?
For me it was stopping off in Seoul, South Korea, while on a two-week vacation in Asia. The first thing I saw when I stepped out of the Seoul subway was a large, dark statue that looked incredibly familiar. Had I really not flown to South Korea after all but done a non-stop, round-trip flight to Los Angeles?

Energystas will host a free introductory event for its Zumba classes on Dec. 5 in suite C951 at the California Market Center.

Leasing director Mona Sangkala and building owner Steve Hirsh hosted the Bill Cunningham New York” documentary about the legendary New York Times street fashion photographer. (That's Steve and Mona in the photo above.) Guests lounged on comfy couches and enjoyed truffle popcorn and beer. I hope they host fashion movie night every market!

Here’s a familiar figure. Many of you will recognize the “Hammering Man” statue from the courtyard of the California Market Center in downtown Los Angeles.
While traveling in Germany, I nearly missed my train stop when I spotted the same statue in front of the Messe Frankfurt convention center in Frankfurt. Only unlike the merely huge version at the CMC, this one is 70 feet tall.

Downtown L.A.'s Fashion District has always had an effervescent buzz of creative energy swirling through it, but lately the stylish 'hood is increasingly starting to look like an urban art gallery without walls as more and more creative street artists leave their mark. And we couldn't be more impressed.

Looks from Musani Couture
Los Angeles Fashion Market is not only about buying, but also about looking, and then buying.
Right in the middle of Los Angeles Fashion Market Week, the California Market Center gathered up some fashions from their showrooms and put on a Contemporary Collections runway show in the penthouse area on the 13th floor. It was a casual setting where organic wine was served and sandwiches handed out to the hungry.
