Hip-hop legends Murs, Eligh and Scarub kicked off LACMA’s Through the Mic series last night. Murs worked with the museum to create the new concert series, which explores contemporary Los Angeles hip hop and takes place the third Thursday of every month, in front of the museum’s famed Urban Light sculpture.
The sold-out show injected the museum with two hours of spirited fun and a lively sense of style.

The swim world is preparing for its annual trek to Miami Beach, and this July there will be a landmark occasion to celebrate. SwimShow, the swimwear industry’s longest running trade show, turns 30 this year. The Swimwear Association of Florida (SAF) will fête this milestone anniversary at its annual event July 21 to 24 at the Miami Beach Convention Center.

The Annenberg Community Beach House
Sounds like the perfect way to spend a Monday by the beach talking about fashion.
Lucky Magazine is hosting its very first West Coast-oriented Fashion and Beauty Blog conference on April 30.
The one-day event takes place on the beaches of Santa Monica at the Annenberg Community Beach House - that swanky place that used to be the home of long ago actress Marion Davies. (Her heartthrob was newspaper tycoon William Randolph Hearst.)

When designer Christa Halby was working in business development to promote investment opportunities in foreign countries, she knew that she wanted to do more to help people.
“After having spent years working in developing countries around the world, I wanted to find a way to work with the local people and help provide them with opportunities to make a living and achieve a sense of economic independence,” she said.

One of the first things that struck me about the Jean Paul Gaultier retrospective exhibition at the de Young Museum in San Francisco is the chatter. On my recent visit, the chatter came not from the shoulder-to-shoulder crowd, but from the mannequins.
