The first batch of designers headed for the new "Designers in Residence" program housed inside the Macy's at Union Square have been named.
The six designers, who all live in San Francisco but come from spots around the world, will be the first lucky ones to take part in the just-launched Fashion Incubator San Francisco, which has an incredible program.

Perfect thing to stumble across right before the weekend. Tavi Gevison’s online magazine Rookie has a feature written by Rodarte designers, Laura and Kate Mulleavy, in which the two designing sisters discuss their favorite episodes of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.”
This is geeky and good on so many levels.
For those of you with a really long Netflix queue, the two offer this helpful warning: “Spoilers like crazy throughout.”

Mobile fashion company Poshmark is hosting its first live Posh Party next Thursday, at The Crescent Hotel in Beverly Hills. The shopping event is open to the public and will feature “a young, hip mix of LA's most fashionable folks, bloggers and designers,” said Joanna Riedl, a spokesperson for Poshmark.

The Los Angeles Fashion District is getting a new hotel—one with a perfect blend of hipster credibility and old Hollywood provenance.
Ace Hotel, the indie boutique chain based in Portland, Ore., will open in the historic United Artist Theater on Broadway near 9th Street.

Moods of Norway's Stefan Dahlkqvist with art deal Paul Stolper.
Damien Hirst did not shock at the Moods of Norway shop on Robertson Boulevard. Rather renowned art dealer Paul Stolper dropped by the shop Jan. 18 to display two pieces from the controversial artist's Souls collection, part of London-based The Paul Stolper Gallery. One piece was a delicate (for Hirst) rendering of a butterfly. The next, get ready to cheer all of you Goths and premium fashion dudes, was spooky-looking skull.

LACMA Director Michael Govan interviewed Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte as part of LACMA's Director's Series on January 18. The sisters recently donated their Fra Angelico Collection to the museum's Costume and Textiles Department and spoke about the influence of art, film and literature on their designs. The collection is on display through February 5.
