Sure, JLM Couture is headquartered in New York City. But the design house and manufacturer of more than five bridal gown and bridesmaid dress labels traveled to Los Angeles to open its first flagship store.
Earlier this month, JLM Couture opened a 1,600-square-foot shop at 352 N. Robertson Blvd., a couple of blocks north of high profile boutiques for Kitson, Chanel and Ralph Lauren.

Unicorns and rainbows. And you know what? Maggie Berry knows it, too. The Los Angeles designer created this AWESOME ensemble, shown on the runway at the recent Style for Haiti Benefit Show at La Maison De Fashion in Los Angeles.
The Dec. 3 event raised funds for the 4 Sister Orphanage in Haiti.
In addition to Maggie Berry, the runway show features fashions by Daisy Viktoria, Esther Jean, Flemings’ Couture and Dena Burton.

With a name like Satanica Batcakes, there is no choice but to make Halloween gear.
Los Angeles-headquartered Batcakes makes hats out that look like spiderwebs, hats topped off by taxidermied animals, and even headwear for scary, cute clowns.
Halloween and Classic Hollywood looks have bought success to this milliner who declined to have her real name published and her label Batcakes Couture.

Sometimes curvy women are forgotten in fashion. Not at Jill Alexander Designs, based in Santa Cruz, Calif.
The 40-something woman behind the self-named line knows what it's like to be more than a size zero since she's a little curvy herself. Since launching her label two years ago, her creations showed last year at Full Figured Fashion Week Los Angeles and this year at Full Figured Fashion Week in New York.

The L.A. fashion flock turned out over the weekend for an exclusive preview of the Moschino Fall/Winter collection in Hollywood. Held in collaboration with Fred Segal Couture, the event was a chic poolside affair. Stylists, clients and editors gathered to enjoy cocktails, lunch and beautiful clothing. The event marked the debut of the Fall/Winter 2011 collection following the Milan runway show.

Los Angeles Fashion Market is not only about buying, but also about looking, and then buying.
Right in the middle of Los Angeles Fashion Market Week, the California Market Center gathered up some fashions from their showrooms and put on a Contemporary Collections runway show in the penthouse area on the 13th floor. It was a casual setting where organic wine was served and sandwiches handed out to the hungry.

Talk about putting a damper on holiday shopping.
The Manhattan flagship store of Los Angeles-born Juicy Couture was closed after bedbugs were discocvered Monday night. The 15,000-square-foot store at 650 Fifth Ave. was shuttered on Tuesday to get rid of the mighty insects. An exterminating company removed the merchandise for treatment and took care of the store. The company, now owned by Liz Claiborne Inc.,said the outlet was scheduled to open on Friday, Dec. 3.
