Designer George Esquivel knows how to make a good shoe. The fact that his shoes are all made by hand in L.A. makes them even better in our book. The Council of Fashion Designers of America and, um, Anna Wintour agree. In 2009, Esquivel was nominated for the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund award. Here's cool video about the making of a pair of Esquivel's shoes. And turn the volume up. It sounds as cool as it looks.

The 722 Figueroa Showroom took a novel approach to Fashion Week - which is to say it opted out of the runway scenario in favor of hosting stylists and editors during the day and hipsters and retailers for a party at night. Held Oct. 14 at the downtown showroom (which sits on the very edge of Echo Park), the event was fun and cool and so L.A. - everything Fashion Week should be.

Not quite socks, but not quite shoes, Gypsyz are a hybrid of cozy cotton knit socks with rubber soles. The unisex footwear was inspired by South American handmade booties and comes from the same makers of Gypsy05 clothing. The Los Angeles-based clothing line is known for its unique dying techniques that resemble tie-dye, marbled and ombre effects with a California-casual style of summery dresses, drapey cut sweaters and upscale sweats.
