Miken Acquires Hana

Los Angeles-based Miken Clothing has purchased Hana in a move that will diversify the surf-inspired manufacturer’s distribution.

Hana had sales of approximately $20 million, according to Miken co-owner Mike Bobbitt, who reported his company’s sales last year reached $30 million. However, Hana was faced with $4 million in orders and no credit, according to Bobbitt, who noted that he became aware of the company’s plight through Miken’s accountant and attorney—both of whom also represented Hana.

The purchase deal allows Miken to continue to build its brand, while branching into more of a mass market with the Hana label, Bobbitt said.

“We’re building a name brand for ourselves,” he said. “We’re trying to be more of a label and Hana does a ton of business with Sears and J.C. Penney, which we do not do. So we think it’s a good mix.”

Hana’s sales, design and production teams have already moved from their Santa Ana, Calif.-based facilities to Miken’s Los Angeles headquarters. The company has also combined both lines in Miken’s California Mart showroom in suite C1285.
