Manufacturing Slump

Manufacturing growth in the United States stalled in July, according to the Institute for Supply Management, which found that its monthly index fell from 56.5 in June to 50.5 in July—the lowest point since January. The Purchasing Manufacturers Index measures business activity in more than 350 industrial companies. And the New Orders Index—compiled to measure future demand—fell from 60.8 in June to 50.4 in July.
