Port Protest

Members of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) marched in downtown Los Angeles on Aug. 12 in protest of the federal government’s possible plans to intercede if a strike is called and business is halted at West Coast ports. Meanwhile, negotiations between the union and the Pacific Maritime Association, which represents shipping companies, have resumed in San Francisco following a three-week break. The ILWU’s contract expired July 1, but port activity has continued uninterrupted throughout the negotiations.
