Textile executive Leonard Horowitz has been named president of Los Angeles–based non-profit organization Save-a-Life, succeeding Patty Craven, who relocated to Florida over the summer.

Save-a-Life was founded in 1967 to assist people employed in all phases of the local apparel industry. The organization has helped people pay for expenses such as emergency bills and funerals. The group has also donated medical equipment including dialysis machines, heart-lung bypass machines and neonatal equipment to local medical centers including Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles Hospital and Childrens Hospital LosAngeles. Savea- Life pays for such expenses through membership dues, sales of donated merchandise and other fund-raisers.

Currently, there are about 400 members including lifetime members, families and individual memberships. Save-a-Life’s motto is “We take care of our own.”

Horowitz, who has been a Save-a-Life member since the 1980s and was previously vice president of the organization, said he was honored to take on the new leadership role.

“I feel this is a very worthwhile charity to volunteer my time to, and it’s a way to give back to the industry,” he said.

Horowitz said he plans to recruit new members and kick off a major campaign to solicit corporate sponsorship for Save-ALife. –Alison A. Nieder
