Consumer Satisfaction Grew in 2001

Consumer satisfaction grew in 2001 despite the economic downturn and an erosion of consumer confidence, according to the American Consumer Satisfaction Index, compiled by the National Quality Research Center at the University of Michigan’s business school. Consumer satisfaction with retailers grew 2.6 percent to 74.8, with Kmart as a standout example. Satisfaction with the retail giant jumped 10.4 percent to 74, even as Kmart struggled with inventory and delivery problems. The retailer is currently operating under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
