Some Sectors May Rebound

Some sectors of the U.S. economy may begin to rebound by mid-year or earlier, according to the Federal Reserve in its recently issued Beige Book survey. The economy remained weak between November and January and continued a cautious stance in early 2002, according to the report, which nonetheless noted “scattered reports of improvement.” The survey was compiled in preparation for the Federal Open Market Committee meeting at the end of January, during which the Fed will set interest rates.
