Manufacturing Defense
The American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA) has announced its support of the Berry Amendment, a piece of legislation that would require the U.S. military to buy American-made apparel created from American-made materials. The AAFA has also voiced its support for a Department of Defense interim rule on the Federal Prison Industries (FPI). The defense authorization bill would allow the military to compare FPI product to private-sector product in order to determine whether FPI product is comparable in price, quality and delivery. Currently, the military is required to buy FPI product without first surveying the marketplace.
