Jewelry Designer Petesch Dies

Angela Petesch, Los Angeles jewelry designer and member of the Fashion Group International of Los Angeles, passed away on Oct. 18 at the age of 95.

Petesch was born in 1907, in a suburb of Chicago, Ill., where she went on to write a fashion column for the Chicago Tribune and trained at the Chicago Art Institute in contemporary jewelry and table accessories.

Following a stint in the Red Cross, Petesch moved to Los Angeles, where she went to work for Joseph Bancroft & Sons, a textile and processing company, while continuing to pursue her interest in jewelry.

Petesch began making distinctive jewelry for her friends in gold, silver and precious and semi-precious gems, while creating one-of-a-kind designs. Some of these designs were sold at the Bullock’s Wilshire men’s shop, and others were displayed at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

At Petesch’s request, no funeral services were held; instead, there was a private memorial service. —Darryl James
