CLAD Names New President

The Coalition of Los Angeles Designers (CLAD) has named Darren Gold, co-designer of Mhope, as the organization’s new president.

Gold said that his goal is to have the members of CLAD become more involved in determining the organization’s direction. He recently sent a letter to CLAD members asking for their input as to the course the 4-year-old organization should take.

In the letter, Gold also said that CLAD should become even more involved in the planning of Los Angeles Fashion Week than it has been in the past.

“As an umbrella group representing many designers at different levels, we will need to have a strong voice in the ongoing discussions to make Fashion Week a cohesive, well-planned, well-publicized, centralized event,” said Gold. “CLAD has been involved in the calendar planning for this November, which was a successful collaboration of many L.A. fashion voices. If we continue to be involved in these talks, we can fulfill our original purpose of working together to bring L.A. fashion designers to the forefront of the industry and demand the respect that we deserve.”

Other newly named CLAD officers include Bobby Benveniste of Eisbar, Hallie Sirota of Art of Wear and Rokhsan Enanoria of Huzzi.

The organization also announced its plans for the CLAD fashion show during the upcoming Los Angeles Fashion Week. The show will take place on Nov. 1 at 8 p.m. in a downtown Los Angeles location. Participating designers include Eisbar, Huzzi, Naqada, Art of Wear, Mhope, Linda Weng Designs and Jessica Elliot Jewelry. According to Gold, the show will be small and basic.

“We are going back to the basics with this show—a straight-up, old-school show focused on the fashion,” he said, adding, “It’s really about the designers and the clothes.” —Darryl James
