FBI to Host Finance Seminar

Fashion Business Inc. (FBI) will present a conference discussing financial incentives for garment companies to stay and grow in Los Angeles on Nov. 12 in the New Mart’s Fashion Theater.

In the current difficult economy, the City of Los Angeles has been offering economic development incentives in an effort to retain and expand apparel industry jobs. FBI is organizing the conference to discuss ways in which designers and small apparel firms can take advantage of those incentives and to discuss other financial assistance programs, including tax breaks and incentives, government loan programs and funding for training.

Dov Charney, owner of American Apparel, will discuss how his company used the city’s incentives and witnessed positive results. Also on hand will be Bob Hertzberg, former Speaker of the California State Assembly, as well as representatives from the city’s Economic Development Department, the Department of Water and Power, the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corp. and the California Manufacturing Technology Center.

The event, which is invitation-only, opens with breakfast at 8:30 a.m., followed by the conference from 9 a.m. until noon. —Darryl James
