L.A. Designer Lapson Honored at Miami Fashion Week

Los Angeles-based designer Charlie Lapson won a best-ofshow award for his designs during Fashion Week of the Americas (FWA), held March 19–22 in Miami Beach, Fla.

Lapson showed a collection of evening gowns and backless and draped dresses.

“It was a great honor to receive this because it’s usually reserved for Latin Americabased designers,” said Lapson. “But a lot of my styles are sold throughout Latin America and Europe.”

Lapson designs eveningwear for men and women and also has a line of jewelry. He has outfitted a number of celebrities, including Mariah Carey, Jennifer Aniston and Shania Twain. He hosts a television shopping program on Shop NBC and has a Web site, CharlieLapson.com.

FWA also presented Patricia Field with a lifetime-achievement award for her contributions to the industry. Field is the costume designer for HBO’s “Sex and the City” and has designed costumes for a number of other television and film projects. —Robert McAllister
