Los Angeles Fashion Week Fall I 2003: Peter Cohen

It’s pretty likely that Peter Cohen has been relaxing and enjoying himself after his April 1 fashion show. The debut of the designer’s Fall 2003 collection was the first of many happenings during the highly anticipated April 1–4 run of Mercedes-Benz Shows L.A. at the Downtown Standard Hotel.

Cohen showed warm-and-cozy day looks in a woodsy palette of rust, green, beige and ivory for women and men, as well as body-skimming jersey gowns and dresses in black and ivory for evening.

Cohen’s outerwear was something to talk about. Jackets and coats—and even a brown Ultrasuede cape—topped off the designer’s minimalist approach. Alpaca coats in wine, green and beige added life to simplistic ensembles, such as velvet tanks worn with suede pants or silk blouses worn with Ultrasuede and silk skirts. Cohen also offered a few leather jackets. A dark-green cracked-leather blazer for men was a standout and, for the ladies, a green trench coat was an eye-catcher.

The show closed with a splash of sequins on a black chiffon tunic and two black patchwork dresses that added a small, sophisticated dose of festivity to Fall. —Joselle Yokogawa
