Ray's Apparel Expands at Irvine Spectrum

Ray’s Apparel Inc., the primary licensee for Ocean Pacific clothing, has purchased a 135,777-square-foot warehouse at the Irvine Spectrum for $8.7 million from Goodray Corp. of San Diego, according to real estate broker CB Richard Ellis Inc.

The purchase completes the surfwear producer’s consolidation of its Costa Mesa, Calif., headquarters, where it operates out of three buildings. The company’s new headquarters will be at 20 Goodyear St. in the Spectrum when it moves sometime next month.

Ray’s has been on the expansion track. Aside from having the license to produce Ocean Pacific, it has a stake in the retail chain Beyond the Beach and an investment in action-sports label Split of Santa Ana. It also has a direct manufacturing deal with the Hong Kong-based powerhouse Glorious Sun to use its Southeast Asian production facilities. Glorious Sun is the firm that recently struck a deal to open stores in China for Quiksilver.

Goodray Corp. had owned the 7.8-acre property since 1997. Built in 1982, the 20 Goodyear building is a single-story, concrete tilt-up design with 20,242 square feet of office space. —Robert McAllister
