Dallas Market Center to Honor von Furstenberg

The Dallas Market Center will present fashion icon Diane von Furstenberg with its Fashion Excellence award during the 28th annual Dallas Fashion Awards gala in October.

“Diane von Furstenberg is a perennially modern designer who is as current today as when she first burst onto the fashion scene in the 1970s,” said Bill Winsor, president and chief executive officer of the DMC. “Her intelligent designs are attracting a whole new generation of customers. And in many ways her clothes reflect the spirit of the modern woman— combining pure femininity with complex urban sophistication. This award honors her passion for innovative design and her excellence of vision.”

Belgian-born von Furstenberg began her career more than 30 years ago with a collection of wrap dresses that became a staple of modern fashion design. Her styles were often associated with the ’70s disco era and the women’s lib movement. She currently develops fashions for the DVF collection.

The Dallas Fashion Awards gala will benefit the Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS and the Fashion Group International Scholarship Fund. It will take place at 7 p.m. on Oct. 25 in the International Apparel Mart’s Great Hall. The event will feature a runway presentation of von Furstenberg’s latest looks, a presentation of this year’s Personal Style award to salon owner Freacute;deacute;ric Fekkai, and an announcement of award winners in 15 additional categories.

Tickets for the event are $135; tables of eight are $1,000. For more information, call (214) 672-8420. —Robert McAllister
