New L.A. Distributor for Dirtbag Clothing

San Francisco–based Dirtbag Clothing Inc. has struck a deal with Los Angeles–based Black Market Jewelry to distribute Dirtbag’s contemporary T-shirts, hats and other sportswear throughout Black Market’s 8,000-unit account base beginning in October. In addition, both companies will collaborate on developing new products, such as men’s tanks, women’s designs and wristbands.

The agreement will put Dirtbag’s line in Black Market’s distribution channel, which is made up of boutiques, record stores and tattoo parlors.

“This unique partnership will enable us to reach over 8,000 new core stores in a very short period of time and will allow us to expand our business, product line and brand awareness on our own terms without having to bring in any outside investors,” said Douglas Canning, chief executive officer of Dirtbag Clothing.

Black Market co-founder Jason Matthews said the deal was a “no-brainer.”

“We have the sales team, the desire and the infrastructure in place to put Dirtbag on the map in a hurry,” he said.

Canning and Matthews project sales of $1.2 million for Dirtbag in 2004. The company will be showing the line next month at The Edge show in Las Vegas. Dan Thompson will rep the line. For more information, e-mail pr@dirtbagclothing.com. —Robert McAllister
