Cherokee Strikes Deal for Chorus Line Brands

Van Nuys, Calif.-based Cherokee Inc. has signed a 5-year brand licensing agreement with Gilrichco Brands LLC to produce several brands under the CL Fashions trademark.

Oxnard, Calif.-based Gilrichco Brands manufactures private label apparel, textilerelated items and promotional products for corporate identity programs.

Last month, Cherokee purchased the trademarks in an acquisition with Los Angeles- based CL Fashions, parent company of Carole Little, CLII, Saint Tropez West, Chorus Line, All that Jazz, Tickets and Molly Malloy for about $2 million. Additionally, the company announced that it struck a distribution deal for the Carole Little label with Framingham, Mass.-based TJX Companies Inc., parent company of retailers TJ Maxx and Marshalls, among others.

The company said Gilrichco has assumed the role of master licensee for Chorus Line, All That Jazz, Jazz Kids, Jazz Sport, Tickets and Molly Malloy brands. As part of the agreement, Cherokee will assist the company with retail direct licensing opportunities for those brands.

“We are pleased that in a short period of time, Cherokee has licensed all of the brands acquired in the CL Fashions transaction including the retail direct licensing of the Carole Little and Saint Tropez West brands that was recently announced. We are excited to enter into this agreement with Gilrichco,” said Cherokee president Howard Siegel.

Gilrichco Holdings LLC chief executive officer Richard Gilman said the company is still deciding whether it will choose wholesale manufacturing or wholesale licensing for the labels.

Both companies declined to release financial details of the agreement and projections for the labels. —Claudia Figueroa
