Fashion Museum Gains Housing Group Support

The Los Angeles Housing and Community Development Committee took a step toward facilitating a deal to build a fashion museum in downtown Los Angeles.

The committee moved for the Los Angeles-based CIM Group to honor a proposal to allocate 10,000 square feet of space for an annex to the proposed Museum of Fashion Designers and Creators (MODAC) at its mixed-use project planned on Grand Avenue on a site formerly occupied by UCLA Extension.

CIM’s Shaul Kuba requested a business plan from MODAC, which was presented to him by MODAC’s Irene Kasmer. Kasmer said she wants a contract with CIM before proceeding with plans to build the annex. She’s searching for sites for a larger, permanent home for the museum as well as storage space to house thousands of antique garments and archives documenting California’s fashion history. —Robert McAllister
