The Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM) in Los Angeles will kick off its 11th exhibition saluting “The Art of Motion Picture Costume Design” on Feb. 17 at The Museum Galleries on the Park at FIDM’s downtown campus.

The exhibit pays homage to the creativity of costume design for films in 2002 with a museum show of outstanding costumes and Oscar-nominated designs, said FIDM spokeswoman Shirley Wilson, adding that on display are original costumes used during filming of each motion picture.

More than 100 costumes representing more than 30 films will be displayed inside FIDM’s 11,000-squarefoot museum. The exhibit will include costumes from the films “Possession,” “Frida,” “Far From Heaven,” “Pinocchio,” “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets,” “Spider-Man,” “Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers” and more.

The free exhibit runs through May 3. Hours are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. FIDM is located at 919 S. Grand Ave., at the corner of Grand and 9th Street. For more information about the exhibition, call (213) 624-1200. —Claudia Figueroa
