Local Entrepreneurs Launch Stain-Removal 'Pal'

It’s a common problem: trying to remove those white deodorant streaks that turn up when you put on dark clothing. Los Angeles–based entrepreneurs Shannon Larkin and Courtney Rovira have introduced a product that works to remove those stains.

The Gal Pal stain remover, which retails for about $9, can be used on every fabric except silk. It uses no chemicals.

“The secret to the design is simple,” said Larkin. “The specially designed foam pad works to lift the stain like a sponge.”

The two got the idea for the product when they were scrambling to find a dress for Shannon just hours before an event.

“It happened to be that the one I wanted had someone else’s deodorant on it,” recalls Larkin, co-founder and president of Gal Pal. “It was then that the saleswoman revealed a strange piece of foam and then used it to wipe it clean. That’s where I got my milliondollar idea. I purchased the dress, and the rest was history.”

Gal Pal generated its initial sales online at www.gal-pal.com. Now the product is sold throughout the United States in more than 130 retail stores, including some Nordstrom stores, The Studio at Fred Segal Santa Monica and Lisa Kline.

“The online response has been overwhelming,” said Larkin. “Now that the product has been formally launched, we anticipate sales to approach the 20,000 unit mark.”

Larkin said the company is anticipating profits of $50,000 this year.
