Cotton Inc. Bets on Muted Colors for Spring

Cotton Inc. said antiqued, washed and diffused colors will be the key palettes for Spring and Summer in 2004 and 2005. The company issued the forecast during a presentation at the Material World fabric, technology and sourcing show in Miami Beach, Fla., on March 17–19.

Claudia Munoz, fashion marketing manager for Cotton, Mexico, said Asian influences, technology, casual lifestyles and “nature vs. cityscape” themes served as the basis for its inspirations. Washed salmon, orange, pearl and earth tones; darker tech-inspired blue, purple, wine and indigo; and antiqued yellow, tank green and blue were some of the shades the company forecast. Denim, micro-designs, gauze and plaids were some of the textures Cotton said will be key next year.

The company presented three fashion shows during the event, including a Spanish-language presentation for attendees of Fashion Week of the Americas, which ran simultaneously with Material World. —Robert McAllister
