Mall of Orange Set for Expansion

The Mall of Orange—one of the first shopping centers in Orange County, Calif.—is ready to undergo a $57 million renovation that will bring in new shops and restaurants when the project is completed this fall.

Mall owners Rawson, Blum & Leon of San Francisco and financial partners Buchanan Street Partners of Newport Beach, Calif., have unveiled a plan that will add 36,000 square feet to the 822,350-squarefoot center located near Interstate 55 and Interstate 91. Construction will begin soon and will be completed in November, when the center will be renamed The Village of Orange.

J.C. Penney, Sears and Wal-Mart anchor the 30-year-old center, which over the last few years has faced tough competition from the nearby Block at Orange. Cost Plus World Market and Linens ’N Things are among the companies that will lease space in the renovated mall. A new water fountain, a two-story glass exterior and a pedestrian-friendly entrance and walkway are a few of the planned improvements.
