L.A. Fashion Week Spring '04: Pegah Anvarian

Newcomer Pegah Anvarian has a gift for taking cashmere and silk knits and draping them into glamorous styles that recall Halston in his heyday. The designer, who launched her line last year, debuted her latest designs on Oct. 28 at Mercedes-Benz Shows L.A.

The collection, titled “Brazil Underwater,” featured a scoop-neck jersey dress named for Brazilian fashion muse (and loyal Halston customer) Bianca Jagger. Other silhouettes included backless genie-style jumpsuits, jagged-edged dresses and skirts with cutout details. Draped, twisted and flowing knit styles were rendered in soft tropical shades of tangerine, yellow, mint, blue, pink and white.

For the finale, Anvarian delivered a bright-yellow low-cut backless mini-dress with a 2-foot fishtail. —C.F.
