L.A. Looks Set Tone for Fashion Week

Directives West, a retail consulting company, kicked off the Los Angeles Junior & Contemporary Majors Market on Oct. 13 in the California Market Center fashion theater with a show highlighting some of Southern California’s trendy looks for Spring 2004.

The L.A. Looks Spring 2004 Fashion Show showcased some of the newest styles from the West Coast’s contemporary, junior and swim markets.

The show opened with a “Walk of Fame” segment featuring 10 of Los Angeles’ premier designers, creative directors and company heads, who walked the runway with their designs. They included Nony Tochterman for Petro Zillia, Joey Tierney and Tanya Tamburin for Joey and T, Allen Schwartz for ABS by Allen B. Schwartz, Ruthie and Anthony for Ruth, Avril Ozen for Language Los Angeles, Debra Polanco for Sanctuary, Tim Kaeding for Seven for All Mankind, Derek Banton for Riley, Kerry Jolna for Bella Dahl, and Dick Cantrell for Hard Tail.

The show highlighted top trends for the contemporary market in three categories. “Girl Talk” was all things pink, feminine and flirty; “Romancing the Sport” showcased active looks with a feminine touch; and “Mod Squad” had ’60s-inspired black-and-white styles and optical designs.

There were three groups in the junior category. “I Love the ’80s” had models walking the runway to Joan Jett and the Blackhearts’ “I Love Rock ’n’ Roll,” “Class Act” revisited the ’50s with updated preppy looks for today’s country club set and “Mo’ Mod” highlighted trends from the ’60s. —N.
