Blue Tattoo Gets Dressed Up

Denim label Blue Tattoo is adding dresses to the mix.

Blue Tattoo’s new dress collection, which bowed during the Los Angeles Junior & Contemporary Majors Market in October, features four body-conscious silhouettes in knit fabrics. A key style is an A-line tank dress with a lace-up corset back in ribbed cotton. Dresses come in various lengths and sizes.

Details such as lace-up ribbons and snap-button necklines give the line a feminine, sexy feel. Three kinds of tattoo screen prints, ranging from tribal looks to flower vines, are imprinted on the fabric panel behind the ribbon. Several pieces in the collection feature crystal tiedyed treatments.

Wholesale price points range from $27 to $40. Spring 2004 deliveries will run from Jan. 30 to March 30. The company is projecting a 15 percent increase in sales with the addition of the new line, according to Shaffer.

Blue Tattoo owner Marie Kennedy Shaffer said the line will be sold to retailers who sell the Blue Tattoo label. Currently, the company has 400 accounts with department stores and specialty boutiques, including Saks Fifth Avenue, Macy’s and H. Lorenzo.
