Redevelopment, Name Change at Mall of Orange

You know you’re in a growth phase when a “mall” suddenly becomes a “village.”

Fueled by a $57 million redevelopment project, the Mall of Orange has been renamed The Village at Orange.

The 30-year-old Orange, Calif.–based shopping center’s makeover, which began in April, is intended to take the center from a family-oriented mall to a contemporary-lifestyle retailing destination. The center will add 36,000 square feet to its existing 822,350 square feet. Developers expect to complete the project in November.

The Village at Orange features 100 specialty stores and is anchored by JCPenney, Sears and Wal-Mart stores.
