L.A. in N.Y.: Lloyd Klein's Elegant Luxury

Modern, elegant and luxurious describes Lloyd Klein’s Spring/Summer 2004 collection, which the designer showed Sept. 12 at Bryant Park during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.

Styles ranged from ladylike to all-out-sexy in glamorous styles inspired by the ’30s. A rich, vibrant color palette enhanced elegant jacket-and-skirt ensembles and body-skimming dresses in mandarin orange, lemon yellow, and sky and royal blue. In whimsical contrast, refined, classic suits, which came in black with white details, were paired with short chiffon and tulle skirts.

Ultra-chic dresses with simple lines and feminine details were worn with tall black-and-white graphic-style boots for a modern edge. Exaggerated elements— such as elongated sleeves, a billowing blue robe, oversize bows, dramatic deacute;colleteacute; and ball-gown skirts made with seas of tulle—took their turns on the runway to accentuate the extravagant feeling of the collection. Fabrics included liquid satins, organza, crepe, crisp cottons, iridescent silk, tulle and chiffon.

It was a meeting of opposites—black and white, large shoulders and tiny waistlines, masculine and feminine, and vintage style and modern couture— that created a look of refined luxury. —N. Jayne Seward
