L.A. Fashion Week Fall '04: Frankie B.

Los Angeles designer Daniella Clarke designed her Frankie B. Fall 2004 collection by looking in her closet and asking herself, “What do I want next?” She presented the results of her query on March 31 at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios in Culver City.

Clarke—who said her collections are always inspired by the ’60s, ’70s and rock ’n’ roll—offered a range of choices that are perfect for L.A.girls. The designer went further than she had in past years, turning out sexy silk chiffon bohemian dresses, hippie-chic tops, hip blazers and wool coats paired with her classic jeans, as well as beautifully tailored wool coat, blouse and trouser ensembles.

Clarke also showed a handful of men’s looks, including paisley-print and striped cotton shirts, wool jackets, jeans and black patent-leather pants.

“We’re really trying to establish ourselves as a lifestyle brand,” Clarke said. “You can come to us for denim—you can come to us to dress up your denim or to dress down your denim.”

“I live in Los Angeles, so I’m always inspired by the great weather,” she added. “L.A.’s great—there are so many chic people here, and I’d love to dress them just out of pure fun.” —N.J.S.
