L.A. Fashion Week Fall '04: Jenni Kayne

A star-studded audience assembled for the showing of Jenni Kayne’s Fall/Winter 2004 collection on March 30 at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios in Culver City. Lara Flynn Boyle, Farrah Fawcett, Dustin Hoffman, Owen Wilson, Jared Leto and Jack Osbourne were a few of the celebrities on hand to see the collection, which Kayne said is her best and most cohesive yet.

Kayne said she was inspired by the 007 flick “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service,” particularly by the glamorous beaded dress worn by Diana Rigg in the opening sequence of the 1969 film.

The designer mixed luxurious fabrics—including sequins, hand-painted floral-print silk chiffons, satin and fur—with simple, wearable fabrics such as wool, tweed and denim. Styles included fabulous long coats with cocoon and bow collars, glamorous ruched dresses, silver sequined skirts and gowns, quilted satin coats and fur jackets paired with capri pants, tweed capes and blazers paired with jeans, and elegantly tailored suits and blazers with elongated draped sleeves. —N.J.S.
