Spring Splurge

Spring shopping is approaching winter spending levels, according to a new survey titled “Shopping in America Spring 2004.” The survey, commissioned by the Macerich Company, found that nearly 60 percent of the more than 6,800 shoppers surveyed were planning to spend an average of $404 on Spring clothing. The group’s October 2003 survey found that shoppers were looking to spend an average of $528 on overall gift purchases. Consumers also looked to celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez, Jennifer Aniston, Oprah, P. Diddy, George Clooney and Brad Pitt for trend cues, according to the report.
