Last-Minute Spending

Holiday spending was up this season—at least the spending that was put on plastic, according to Visa USA, which found that total spending between Nov. 28 and Dec. 28 increased 14.2 percent over the same period last year. Consumers put $97.9 billion on their Visa cards during that time, with a big push the days after the Christmas holiday. According to Visa, consumers spent more than $1 billion on Dec. 26—a 16.1 percent increase over Dec. 26, 2002.
