New Hires at Beau Dawson and Tyte

Los Angeles–based better misses and juniors apparel manufacturer 4Whatitsworth Inc. has hired a new team to boost recognition of its brands Beau Dawson and Tyte, according to Alden Halpern, founder and president of 4Whatitsworth.

After taking a few years off from the misses business, Glenn Mance has joined 4Whatitsworth’s better misses division, Beau Dawson, as president.

In the newly created position, Mance will head up the division’s sales, design and merchandising. He will report to Halpern.

Beau Dawson’s brand of better misses apparel made its debut at Intermezzo in New York last January. Currently, the line is sold at better specialty stores and better department stores, including Nordstrom.

“Glenn Mance will take the Beau Dawson collection to the next level, combining our existing denim business with a sportswear collection that incorporates fabrics from all over the world,” Halpern said in a press statement.

Previously, Mance held similar positions at moderate misses sportswear maker Caribbean Joe in New York, where he spent about one year as vice president of design and merchandising. Prior to that, he spent four years as founder and president of New York–based brand management company Community International, where he consulted East Coast retailers such as Hollister, Structure and Today’s Man on sourcing and design issues.

“I wanted to be back into the branded business and build a brand,” Mance said. “Right now there’s a big opportunity in the misses market.”

Presently, the line consists of denim bottoms and jackets, Mance said, adding that one of his goals for Spring 2004 is to divide the label’s offerings into two new categories: Beau Dawson Jeanswear and Beau Dawson Haberdashery, a better women’s line that is made with wool and features tailored looks such as curtain waistbands and herringbone dobby pocketing. Wholesale price points start at $120.

Mance also plans to add lightweight black slub denim, 8-ounce stretch indigo and broken twill denim to Beau Dawson Jeanswear’s offerings for Spring 2004. Novelty washes will include a vintage wash, an antique wash and a dark rinse.
