SAP Acquires L.A. Software Company

German software company SAP AG has acquired Los Angeles–based A2i Inc., a privately held software company that markets catalog-data management products for retailers and other industries.

SAP will integrate A2i’s xCat server into its NetWeaver platform to enable its clients to deliver catalog data across various systems easily.

A2i’s xCat is known for its ability to handle large volumes of data and multiple distributions from the same database, whether for the Internet, print or CD-ROM.

The xCat will also add new functionalities for the high-performance searches used heavily in retail, as well as intelligent image and document management and print-catalog publishing.

A2i Chief Executive Officer Ariel Hazi said the acquisition was a natural fit for both companies.
