Richard Tyler Hosts Moving Sale

It’s a time-honored tradition: If you’re moving, you must have a moving sale.

Los Angeles designer Richard Tyler is tightening up and moving his headquarters a few miles north to Alhambra, Calif.

The company will be moving later this month from a 36,000-square-foot production building in Monterey Park, Calif., to facilities that are one-third smaller and in a light industrial zone in Alhambra. Tyler will be selling fabrics, samples of ready-made pieces and several industrial sewing machines to lighten the move from Monterey Park, where his company has been located for five years.

“It’s not like the company is downsizing personnel—we’re eliminating excess space,” said Ron Miyada, the company controller.

The company is specifically eliminating production space for the sportswear line Tyler, which has been produced in China for two years. Tyler’s couture line and Richard Tyler Eve, a cocktail eveningwear line, will still be produced in Southern California, said Office Manager Chai Vang.

The move comes on the heels of several announcements from the company.

In February, Atlanta-based Delta Airlines awarded Tyler a contract to design uniforms for the airline’s public contact staff, including flight attendants and ticket agents. Tyler’s Delta designs are scheduled to debut in 2006.

The company is also redesigning its New York showroom in the city’s fashionable Meatpacking District, where the designer held his couture show last month. The redesign, which involves retiling the floors, should be finished in two months.

The company’s moving sale will include women’s clothing samples, which will range from $85 to $550. Also for sale are rolls of lace, chiffons and beaded fabrics. Vang said many of the fabrics are classics that Tyler used in 1989, when he started his women’s line.

The sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 13–20 at 2001 Saturn St. in Monterey Park. Call Vang at (323) 869-9299 for more information. —A.A.
